Most of the big five Canadian banks have brokerages on line, Bank of Nova Scotia has lowest rates I think $22.50 Canadian per trade.
Dont worry about Vancouver office, electronics eliminates need for local office. You can investigate them all at the bank websites.

To second last post, NASDAQ holds no advantages over TSE. Any reputable US broker can as easily trade on TSE.

TD Greenline popular in Canada

Not necessarily recommending this as best or better than others mentioned, but good rates & prob largest Cda discount broker. Also they have a US 'affiliate' but unsure of name.
Try E-mail to : greenline@tdbank.ca for info if interested.
I have only used Etrade in their game, but appears to be excellent from what I have seen.
By the way if PYT can rise good today, I should make top 20 in their monthly contest. Brag time, up abt $160,000. in Mar. contest (starts with $500k Mar 1).
Anyone else in this & making leader board?

Bank of Montreal has both Nesbitt (full service) and Investorline
(discount). Investorline has: online trading, realtime quote
capability when you are looking to enter an order, discounts when
orders are placed online and a $25 dollar fee (CDN or US in like
funds) for any trade up to 1000 shares. You can check it out at:

bmo.com

Geo, What Tim has failed to mention is that B of M has a online service which is probably the worst example of a web sight I have ever seen.
It is continuosly breaking down and it is very frustrating to get on line to check you portfolio or to place a trade and be cut off right in the middle of it. They have been promising changes for a long time and when they did come it was no better. I'm seriously considering going over to greenline. The B of M Investorline is just not worth the agravation anymore. If you want to talk to somebody about their service, call Dian Cullen, the sales manager at (416)594-5724.
Good luck.
