They took the L2 off to save money, now you say they must add it back.
What's wrong with this picture? It does not compute.

Burt,
Re -- AMD price has exploded to the upside lately on rumors...

Here are some FACTS on AMD.

-- AMD has said they will have SIGNIFICANT LOSSES this Q.
-- AMD's CFO has resigned!!!
-- AMD has signed a manufacturing deal with IBM. AMD's fabs with 60-80% yields on .25u would be sufficient to satisfy demand for this year.
-- AMD has delayed the K6-3D .25u which was supposed to be shown/intoduced at CeBIT to late June.
-- AMD has NOT publicly announced that the .25u at Fab 25 is in operation.
-- The AMD distributers say that the K6-266 is in short supply, which one can infer that these are made at their research labs.
-- The celeron chips will effectivlely isolate AMD to sell chips at very low ASP's.

Given the above and many more other facts. AMD is really in DEEP DOO DOO despite what the ignorant analysts say.

Burt - Re: "Never happy to see negative news for Intel, but this might be a rough quarter for INTC. We'll know more after the cc."

Turn your calendar back exactly one year.

AMD's stock was zooming because they had the Intel Killer K6 - Intel's stock was rapidly declining because everyone new AMD had a better chip, better technology, and better production capability.

And where are we now?

People are PRAYING that the AMD rumors of improved yields are true.

And what if they are not true, or not "completely" true?

Look at the current pricing - AMD will be getting <$150 for their best chips - far below the $469 that they were expecting to get 1 year ago for the 233 MHz K6.

If Intel gets real aggressive and drives the Celeron price down quickly to $100, the top of the line K6 will go there as well.

And Intel has the real Pentium II at clock speeds of 300, 333, 350 and 400 MHz to generate the real profits.

Paul

INTEL CORP is struggling to revive growth after facing more than
a year of stagnant revenues, company president Craig Barrett said.
"The biggest issue that we face right now is getting back on the
growth track," Barrett told a news conference. "We have been flat
in revenue for the past 15 to 18 months. We need to continue to
focus on micro-processors and find new users and uses for personal
computers. We also need to grow in other businesses in and around
computers." Barrett listed electronic commerce, graphics chips,
digital imaging and flash memory chips as potential growth areas.
