AMD is hyped once a year

For the last couple of years, I have seen AMD hyped on a regular basis. The price goes up to some astronomical level (last year it was 40+) and goes down again when it becomes clear that the earnings are not there.

There is nothing wrong technically with the K6 - in fact I believe it is better than the Celeron, which doesn't have any local cache. The fact is that AMD has had problems delivering the chip. Today I would buy a Pentium II if I were buying a new computer. So even if AMD ramps up the yields, they are playing for the shrinking market of Pentium Motherboard upgrades, just the same as the K5 vs. 486 scenario a couple of years back.

There are an incredible amount of postings in the AMD threads (a lot of it hype). I think AMD is overvalued, but wait for it to peak on the hype.

P.S. I don't have a position in AMD
