There is only one True wall coloring, and that is White. Fortunately, there are literally hundreds of shades of white available at the local paint shoppe. Perhaps the thing to do is to take along a selected item of linen napery and seek that subtle harmonious point/counterpoint interplay of hue and visual texture.

I quite agree about the touch up paint and the air of elegance and je ne sais quoi a decent job gives one's kitchen. In fact, I believe that several years ago there was an incident in Northern Mexico wherein the face of the Virgin appeared in the - until then - randomly applied daubs of touch-up paint on the front of a refrigerator. I think it was a refrigerator, anyway.

And other appliances, well ... one could go on and on ...
