P.T. Burnem,

<Barrett said revenue had been stagnant at about $6.2 billion over the past five quarters. "Whether we're seeing a seasonal slowdown this quarter or saturation...I don't think anyone for certain knows," he said.>

On top of this, CPQ had earlier stated that the inventory problems were on the "high end" models. I will take a guess as to a possible cause to this problem. I think the Year 2000 issue is a factor. I went to headhunter.net and did a job search in my state for "Y2K OR Year 2000" jobs. I repeated this for "java". We all know Java is big. The result was that there were nearly an equal number of jobs for the Y2K. Many jobs 30-100K. Most contract (i.e. temporary ). This rather crude "experiment" seems to suggest to me that business' have set money aside in their budgets for this problem, and this has siphoned money that might normally go to business PC purchases. If this is true, Y2K issue should be temporary ;) as should the PC business growth concerns.
