FWIW, the two companies in Eximer laser eye surgery and vision correction are: VISX --VISX Inc.
and BEAM --Summit Technology.

I believe they entered into a venture to share certain technology and licensing revenues, which provides for a fixed fee per procedure.

The story has developed for a least a decade; now commercial.
