But I can say that Iomega is NOT going out of business anytime soon. However, I believe (and Iomega itself believes according to the latest 10-k) that competition will only INCREASE from here on out. The removable market is growing, but this only invites more companies to enter the fray. And they have. We will all witness the incredible marketing power that Sony owns when they bring their 200MB HiFi drive out. Castlewood is to bring out their ORB soon. The mistake that Iomaniacs make is they think that there will be be only one solution and one company for all of the different needs in this niche. This is nonsense. For instance, a very, very popular setup in the music industry is to use a Iomega Zip AND a SyQuest SyJet (which I have) in the same SCSI chain. You know, I would even consider buying a Zip drive if the price drops more. But I would only need 1 or 2 Zip discs total. Most of my file needs would be on SyJet. I am now strongly considering buying a Cd-R burner. This is the best solution for cheap archiving and data distribution. NOTHING beats it. Using Zip or Jaz for these purposes is a joke- and an expensive one. Zip/HiFi has its place. Jaz/SyJet/ORb have their place. CD-R has its place. CD-RW has its place. And don't forget DVD- The political format nonsense won't last forever. Notice I didn't mention Vapor!. I sincerely think Vapor! is toast. Flash cards are, and will be The Standard. Vapor! is just too little, too late. In the longer run (2-3 years), with the competition factor added in, I think Iomega has grown about as much as it can. When Sony ships HiFi, the realization will finally set in that the removable market Iomega opened up wide has suddenly filled up with product. And Iomega will have to fight tooth and nail for every drive sold.
