Arnie:

I remember that piece of news and it reminded me of a personal experience I had in South America. Several years ago I was in Venezuela and traveled to the Amazon region. What struck me at the time was the ever present cell phone I saw throughout the country. When I returned, a good friend of mine who was an electrical engineer for Avon told me that he traveled thru out South America to set up wireless networks for Avon. It seemed that it was impossible to string copper lines. As fast as the company strung the wire, bandits would steal it. He told me that the country was a natural for wireless telephony. At the time, I let it drop. Today it is very apparent that with Nextels venture into South America, it is a win win situation. By the time we have to worry about declining revenues from competition, the stock will have made a new high and will in all probability be expanding service into other emerging countries.
The synergy of the international and domestic business in a climate of dramatic growth for digital wireless places nextel in a leadership position.
