Sheltering assets in preparation for Medicaid:

One thing you may do is purchase a pre-paid funeral plan. Your funeral director will be glad to sell you one, since it guarantees him the work when that time comes. What he might not explain is that you can shelter a small amount of money there... since you can plan for funeral costs that you might occur, and inflation that might happen. The plan specifies how any remainder is divided. It's not a large hiding place... but you might put an extra $10k there if you work hard.

in some states the homestead will not be subject to this issue.
