I'm in waaay over my head here. I'm fortunate enough to share stewardship of a Meissen set with my wife. Her great-grandfather had bought it, and it largely survived the 1960 Chile earthquake, the single greatest shaker in the history of measured earthquakes. Some pieces suffered attrition (plate tectonics?) but there are some doozies. Like the gravy boat and the turkey-sized platter. The pieces are full of flaws, and a recent appraiser liked the obvious nineteenth-century approach to quality control. Elegant? Your call. Boring? No. And tihs is coming from a regular American guy, about dinner plates.
We pull these out for really special occasions.
