Maxwell, Sounds like a "Catch 22". If Celeron's
a dog, (which reports so far indicate), and if Mendocino's more expensive than a competitive K6, (and constrained to a 66 mHz FSB, which Intel's roadmap states), then Intel's strategy to drive users to Slot 1 could end up costing them much of the low end market anyway. Anyone have any idea how the K6 on 100mHz bus will compare price/performance wise to Mendocino? The fact Mendocino won't be out till Q4 also means AMD has a window, (that Celeron was supposed to close). According to Mike Slater of Micro design resources, socket 7 will continue to have a strong presence in the low end markets. That's a market that Intel is giving away to protect Slot 1.
