Michael, if you have any HONEST intent of getting along with me in a cordial manner--the goddess knows I'm trying to get along with you--could I make a few suggestions?

1. Stop accusing me of criticizing or hating all religious people. Start trying to understand the difference between religions as political movements, which are routinely criticized and discussed in books, magazines, and history classes (I do this, admittedly, and I think it is important to do so), and criticizing individual Christians (which I never do except when I see them expressing very polarized ignorance and hatred, which is not very Christian).

2. Please try to understand that I am a centrist, not a socialist at all. You make a mistake, and smear me in a way, when you accuse me of preferring that the government feed and house America's children, for example, or of using children to advance my political agenda.

Incidentally, if anyone has not taken the political identity test at Boink, here it is:

Michael, you took objection simply to my assuming you were a Christian in a recent post I wrote to you. If this bothers you (even though most of your opinions seem to reflect a conservative Christian belief system), imagine how I feel being constantly labelled as a leftist, a socialist, and someone who hates religious people, when none of these things is remotely true.

And incidentally, in response to your specific comments:

<Haven't you ever wondered why these programs once started balloon into a huge
government subsidy? It's not because there is a greater need than ever before, it's
because people see the good deal and try their best to bring some bacon home for
themselves! This is part of the cause and effect relationship which has existed in
socialist countries throughout the ages.

Moving America down that path, disguised as helping children, is just the kind of
trickery used by socialist leaders for centuries.>

Could you tell me which specific socialist governments and leaders you were referring to, centuries ago?

Additionally, I think you assumed that I would have some problems with private companies providing food services under contract to school districts. I actually think this is a brilliant idea. (In fact, as an aside, I wish that San Francisco would privatize its public transit system, which is so badly run someone is going to die soon unless it is improved.) Most school districts don't have a clue about how to provide nutritious food that tastes good and is delivered within specific cost restrictions. ARA did the food for my off-campus, private residence hall during college, and we had really nice steak dinners every Saturday night. I think is is a very good company.

Anyway, I think we might be able to get along a little better if you stopped making blanket assumptions about my political and religious opinions. Your ideas of what they are are totally untrue, to the extent that you are really slandering me in some of your posts. I am not sure why you do that, but I wish you would stop.
