** NEWS ** Wednesday April 1, 9:15 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Brush Creek Announces Gold in Virgin Ground 2500 South Wing Raise in Gold for Six Rounds 2428 South and 2286 Raises Also Showing Gold GRASS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1998--Brush Creek Mining and Development Co. Inc. (NASDAQ:BCMD - news; the company) today announced that its 2500 south wing raise in the Lower Brush Creek mine has had visible gold showing in the quartz vein for the last sixty-five feet. In the last thirty feet the gold has intensified. The raise is in a block of virgin ground which extends south toward the Peavine level of the mine. The distance to the Peavine level where high grade stopes were worked in the past is approximately 400 feet. After a long winter of heavy snow, Brush Creek's hard rock mill is now operating and has processed one shipment of the ore. From that shipment over 30 pounds of extremely high grade rock were culled and run through the separate high grade mill. Once the ore is amalgamated, its grade will be known and available to the public. Approximately one round per day is being taken from the raise and shipped to the mill. Brush Creek's 2428 south scram encountered heavy sulfides on March 25, 1998. No gold was visible but a scorification assay showed that despite the lack of visual evidence, gold was present. A round taken late in the day of March 30, 1998, the results of which were reported to the company on March 31, 1998, encountered visible gold in the face of the scram. The ribs of the scram were examined by a metal detector with positive results. The company's third heading, the 2286 raise, is also showing gold. All rounds from these areas which appear to contain ore will be shipped to the mill for processing. Vern Shepherd, Brush Creek's general manager of operations, stated, ''We began work south of the Golden Gate ore shoot in the hope of finding another zone of consistent mineralization in virgin ore. Breaks in the quartz vein on the Cassidy level and the presence up-dip of previously mined areas on the Peavine level encouraged us to proceed. Our results to date, while not conclusive, are very encouraging.'' In other news, Brush Creek announced that Sterling Mining, LLC, its partner, had made its contractually required payments for March and April. Their next contribution is due on July 5, 1998. Brush Creek controls nine historic mines in the Alleghany-Downieville gold district of Northern California, which produced more than 12 million ounces of placer and 2 million ounces of hard rock gold. It also controls more than 4000 acres of potentially diamondiferous ground near La Porte, California. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact: Brush Creek Mining and Development Co.
