Actually, Steve Farber would probably be the best on this thread to answer your question (about where "Informix" came from and who actually came up with it), because I believe he was involved very early (especially with the AT&T sales). I come from the Innovative Software side, and know only a little before 1988. Incidentally, for those who don't know, RDS refers to Relational Database Systems, which was the original name for the company (they changed to Informix just before they went public (in about 1986)--and RDS came from Roger Sippl (an engineer/manager among the 3 founders) who wanted to make a statement about the primary product that the company would produce.
