Doug, no holding out dude, just didn't know that you were in to photography :) DPMI is an interesting play and fairly low risk in my opinion. They make money right now and trade at a fairly conservative PE--hell in comparison with Yahoo, DPMI is a Treasury Bill. A very established company with strong market share, and of course the DuPont (they were spun off) name magic.
You should read Duane's post #471 to get some late breaking news on why this company has some real rapid growth potential in front of it. As you well know, I am a techno-moron and practically any guy on this thread can get you further down the curve, but: DUV was thought to have reached its limits in terms of how very small circuity could be etched on silicon. IBM and Intel for example are spending gazillions to develop new direct write techniques as we head in to the turn of the century. The photomask business appeared to have 5-8 years of life left before they turned out the switch.
The recent work with University of Texas, DPMI, and CYMI, among others, has proven that there are many more puffs on the DUV cigar which is terrific news for DPMI and the whole chip industry since they won't have to re-tool anywhere near as expensively as would be the case if they had to bring in the IBM/INTC "exotica". It will be several more years (I have seen estimates ranging from 5-7) before the UT breakthrough will be commercialized, but it does indeed appear to be a genuine breakthrough.
All: please jump in and correct my amateurish attempts to characterize the current state of DUV and DPMI. Thanks, Mike Doyle
