This has already happened. IBM is using the 266 MHz part in an Aptiva product and Compaq uses the same part - but run at 233 MHz - for a notebook computer.

You hit the nail on the head with this one.

With Celeron-based PCs priced at <$800, the Intel name will pull in a lot of customers that bought clone-CPUs/PCs because of the better price. Now, Intel will be "pulling" the price down, a you noted.

Any business that AMD or Cyrix gets will be at EVEN LOWER margins - or larger losses - than they currently get.
