Adaptec plans job cuts of 200 to 250
Reuters - Posted at 9:47 p.m. PST Tuesday, March 31, 1998

MILPITAS, Calif. -- Adaptec Inc. (NASDQ:ADPT) Tuesday said it plans
to cut its work force by 200 to 250 people, or about 7 percent, in its
fiscal first-quarter ending June 30.

Adaptec -- a leader in the manufacture of hardware and software for
speeding the transfer of data between computers, peripherals and
networks -- said in a statement that it will take a charge of $8
million to $12 million in the June quarter to account for the job
cuts.

Adaptec cited ''turmoil in the personal computer industry'' as its
reason for the job cuts.

The Milpitas, Calif.-based company said the cuts would come
predominantly in its U.S.-based work force.

I believe so. Being all digital, the 56k makes life easier for the TNT; less power consumption and less processing load.
