Here's an interesting article mentioning low pricing for Celeron:

Dow Jones Newswires -- April 1, 1998
Intel Starts Shipping Celeron At
Lower-Than-Expected Price

By Mark Boslet

PALO ALTO (Dow Jones)--Intel Corp. (INTC) began shipping its
Celeron chip to computer makers earlier this week with a price lower than
many analysts had expected.

The 266-megahertz microprocessor is Intel's first entry to target the rapidly
growing sub-$1,000 segment of the computer market. In that segment, Intel
is meeting with stiff competition from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s
(AMD) K6 family of chips.

The new chip, a version of Intel latest generation Pentium II technology, is
selling in volume purchases for between $140 to $150 each, industry
sources said. Some experts had expected the chip to sell for as much as
$185.

The shipments to computer makers started in anticipation of an April 15
launch of the product.

An Intel spokesman said it is typical for products to ship to computer
makers in advance of a formal launch date. The spokesman declined to
comment on pricing.
