MileHigh and All,

The answer may lie in the great run-up semiconductors stocks do obtain when they are in there up cycles. People may not be to concerned about the downside when they are already 50% to 75% off their highs. Most of them seem to be looking down the road at the potential gains that accompany them when they are in an up cycle. I myself wonder if it's worth waiting for a lower price ($28-30) before buying in. If it never happens I miss my buying opportunity. If it does go down to $28-$30 range and I bought at $33-$35 but 2 years from now the stock price is $80, who cares about the $5 a share I lost in the beginning. I guess my point is, if all your (thread's) predictions about AMAT's price do come about (between $80 and $100) I'd be thanking my father above for the wisdom to invest when it was $33-$35. This is my guess as to why everyone is ignoring all the bad news and the stock continues to climb.

long a little - still waiting for more

Milehigh,

Re: What is it exactly going to take to see a pullback in these stocks? More warnings for the 2nd and 3rd QTR's?

The leaders have already given warnings for the next 3-4 quarters. It is unlikely that a warning of shorter duration will be totally unexpected and cause a major or prolonged dip for the sector.

If the chipmakers were to say that they will never evolve to 300mm no matter how compelling the economics and do so in a credible fashion, then you might see the sector tank big time and for a long time. ... or if Congress were to seriously consider outlawing technology to the degree that they're focusing on tobacco, that would probably have an impact.

i.e. - it's going to take something that isn't already known.

Ian.
