And drove almost everybody else out of business as well. IBM, I mean. The other guys you mention were bleeding red ink the whole time, too. Xerox had to leave the business for quite a while. So did DEC, for a while.

I remember Cromemco as the maker of what were then very highly regarded top end PCs (late 70's). That was maybe 4 years before IBM flattened the whole group of several hundred CPM and small Unix box manufacturers like cockroaches at a square dance. The survivors being apple and trs.
