In January, 1996 AMD issued 33.6 million shares to NexGEN shareholders to purchase that company.

That doesn't really count. It was a merger. The question was:

how long does AMD have to bleed before AMD investors refuse further continuous transfusions?"

The shareholders are not really doing the "transfusions".Maybe you can say that about the people who bought AMD bonds.

The shareholders are just buying and selling to each other.
