From Mac OS Rumors:

Apple and SGI announce Merger. Really.

April 1, 1998 -- Apple Computer announced today that negotiations to purchase ailing
computer company Silicon Graphics have been concluded, subject to regulatory approval.

Said Apple interim-CEO-for-life Steve Jobs: "SGI has taken a bashing since buying Cray
Research. We believe the reason for it is the cumbersome combined name, Silicon
Graphics-Cray Research. You just can't fit that in a sound bite and you certainly can't write it
on the back of a snail. At the same time, the Apple name has also taken a bashing.

"The time has come," Jobs continued, "to Think Different not only about grammar but about
company names. We want to create a new image that captures not only the Cray name, Silicon
Graphics's illustrious past but also Apple's new move to gain mass-market appeal."

"The new name," Jobs said, "will be Crayon Graphics."

What does this means ? Is Apple buying SGI ?
