BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 1998--The Panda Project Inc. (NASDAQ:PNDA) Thursday announced that it has received pre-production qualification orders for its VSPA(tm) semiconductor package from Tandem Computers Inc., SAAB Dynamics AB and EG&G IC Sensors Inc.

A similar order for Compass Connectors has also been received from Tandem Computers Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Compaq Computer Corp.

"These orders show a widening interest and acceptance from several industries for our VSPA(tm) and Compass technologies," commented Stanford W. Crane Jr., president and CEO of The Panda Project. "Additionally, they represent a mixture of standard and custom designs in both single and multichip versions of VSPA. We will work closely with these companies to take the programs to the next level."

Pre-production qualification orders result at the stage in the design process following initial agreement on the product design and the delivery of prototype samples. The orders are used by customers to perform qualification testing, the results of which may lead to production orders of the product.

VSPA(tm) is an advanced semiconductor package developed by The Panda Project with assistance from a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. VSPA(tm) was designed to provide outstanding size, thermal, electrical, mechanical and cost benefits to the semiconductor and electronics industries. The Compass Connector is Panda's high-density pluggable interconnect device, with 146 contacts per linear inch.
