Current Sales of PC's and NetWorking Products
also conforms to this trend.

Could they be waiting for the right bandwidth solutions before buying new PCs and in the case of ISP, telcos, and so on, the right networking products, i.e., price points and ease of installation?

Besides these there are countless other news releases supporting ADSL deployment. Deutsche Telekom just put out a RFP for 70K lines.

I could go on and on.

No, it's not happening over night, but deployment has begun.

Just my take.

<<Pat: That was a great pitch by US West. There were similar pitches in the days of ISDN.>>

Doug,

I think the difference between what happened with ISDN, and what I believe will happen with x.DSL is as follows:

* ISDN was between two and four times as fast at a 28.8 modem. Better, but not fast enough to do anything else with the web other than browse a little faster.
*ISDN was tough to configure for both the local telco and the customer. It's a bear.
* ISDN needed a telco customer premise visit. Costly and slow. x.DSL requires no customer premise visit. The x.DSL modem can be installed as fast as the customer can buy them and connect them to existing rj11c home jacks.
* With x.DSL, think of how many different industries (movies, tv, etc.) will be able to participate on the web.

There will be a lot of pressure from these powerhouses to get these x.DSL type technologies going.

Just my opinion.

Joe
