Rod I like the way you ask a question, and then turn my sincere response into a COM-CORBA-Java war. I should not have been so foolish to mistake your bait for a sincere question.

Anybody who writes a COM object is certainly familiar with and using inheritance. That the inheritance is hidden from users is the reality of language independence.

Maybe I should have rephrased my last statement. Exposing our objects to the scripting environment that we are using requires COM. See, the problem is, Rod, you are looking at Java on paper. Java as deployed is missing too many key components to be useful for our product. We can not even use Java for a simple web player/recorder, and are forced to use OCX for Explorer, and plug-in for Navigator. Record capabilities did not make 1.2 for what I understand.

Don't get me wrong. I am CORBA all the way for enterprise. Java Beans and Enterprise beans look intriguing. But, if we waited for Java to be fully ready for an scaleable messaging product, we would not be shipping for at least another year.
