a system is under a service contract from Compaq or IBM?

Exactly why these systems are sold at the bargain basement prices at retail, where a lot of the buyers do not know much about computers and rely on the salespeople.

That is also why IBM and Compaq are not targeting them at business. Where service down time is a BIG factor, and reliabilty is very important.
