FWIW, my response to the Heir of Herb Tom Abate's column today in the SFChronicle was rather in the Herb vein, mentioning the so-called click of death as if it were news, and significant at that. I replied (email) as follows, FWIW: Hi, I have yet to run across this rather old-news Iomega click of death thing. Only one of our ~20 zip drives has failed in two years, from being banged around in the lab. A certain percentage of every device will fail, and apparently when zips fail, they fail with a click. So what? I'm sorry about Jatin's problem, and it's great that the web has lowered the barrier to publication, but again, so what? I could start a web site hyping Iomega, and it wouldn't mean any more than Jatin's. I'm curious if you would include positive reviews in your column, or would that violate the legacy of Herb G. ? And yes, we liked the devices so much I bought shares. Apply whatever discount factor you like to this email. Sincerely, Eve Edelson Guess I'm getting crotchety; but it reminded me of the biased coverage of Apple over the years, and if these things are not challenged they become accepted. Well, maybe it's not possible to churn out really meaningful little chunks of business coverage day after day.
