ITC Backs Penalty Against Taiwan Chip Makers, Reverses Korea Fine

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. International Trade Commission
upheld Wednesday anti-dumping penalties against Taiwan for its imports
of static random access memory semiconductors, or SRAMs.
However the commission rejected penalties that had been assessed by
the Commerce Department against South Korea for its SRAM imports.
The decision by the ITC was based on whether SRAM producers in the
U.S. are injured or threatened with financial injury from the Taiwanese
and Korean products.
By a 1-1 vote, the ITC upheld penalties against Taiwan's chip
producers. The agency rejected Commerce's anti-dumping penalties against
South Korean SRAMs by a 3-0 vote.
In the case of tie votes, the ITC's ruling is in favor of companies
that have filed complaints against imported products.
