Thanks Pete. I should not have said "depreciated" but "not carried on the books at market value". I guess I really mean the land might have been purchases in 1970 for $50,000 and now is worth $1,000,000 (just making up numbers). Wouldn't this be the case?

I'm not sure where I am going other than there was alot of inflation in the 1970's and then all this buyout and sell-off the assets occured. Could there be something here that explains the higher valuations? Does a big company like IBM or GM figure their ROA from their assets valued at the fair market value?

(terrible writing, but I am in a rush....sorry)
