I wonder if there are any memos in Barrick that tell the tale?, I bet they are long burned up and erased. I can see some sort of round table discussions about BRE-X and the lack of proof. Apparently Barrick wanted to do DD and was refused, and that is why they went no further. Munk might have salivated, but those that can get fired exercised caution and Barrick stepped back from the brink. Can you imagine the flap in Barrick bouhgt BRE-X and paid and then got fired. The firings would sound like a machine gun,. huge SH suits agin Munk and all breathing Barrick things.

So we all want to know why did Barrick step back. Sure knowledge of a crime?, doubts? suspicions? or was it procedural... Barrick always does DD, and since BRE-X would not allow DD, the deal died then and there, with no real suspicions.
