Brian - You conveniently left out my "maybe". I agree that it is one of the cheapest stocks in the semi equip category based on P/S, but that was also true in August of '97 (and it is down 50% since then). Or, compare it to mid '96, when it was even cheaper on a P/S basis. None of this is to say that I think it is overpriced, only that it is at least possible that the argument can be made. But the P/E argument doesn't hold water for stocks in the midst of a downturn.

As for me, I agree with you. At the bottom of a downturn, the analysts tend to underpredict future earnings, and at the top they overpredict. I think that all of the semi equip's will beat current estimates for fy99 by a substantial margin (unless there is another major macro-economic event or PC sales completely dry up), and as a consequence I am long Lam.
