All,

At one place where I do some consulting all of us Engineers used to have Sun workstations, or X-terminals. In the last 2 years most were replaced by PCs/NT because Suns were just too expensive. However they just recently purchased Darwins for all the engineers because of price, and to some extent that they will emulate Windoze, and run Word. Here is one example of money going to Sun and not MS because of aggressive pricing. I do not understand why the market usually punishes Sun for price cuts.

At another place I consult that is a big NT shop I am busy re-writing one of my NT servers to run with Oracle/HPUX instead of MS SQL. Managements reasoning is that MS SQL can't scale and is not reliable. We know this from experience. I love porting NT code to Unix, even if it isn't Solaris, it doesn't matter to me.

So, I guess in my little corner of the world things look bullish for Sun/Unix in general.
