Try this simple one:

An anomaly is a response that is different from others in the vicinity. That is the practical description.

However, in geochemistry an anomaly is regarded as results better than the 95th percentile of a particular set of data including samples below detection. This is the actual definition but it is not always adhered to in "press releases".

As we both said, without proper "geological context" they can mean very little in terms of economics or exploration.

Walt or anybody....Can someone explain what is the significance, if any, is "magnetic overburden" during the couse of drilling for diamonds???...TIA...ed
