thanks rich. i'll take your story at face value and, since my calls don't expire until may, i don't have to make that decision right now. i've already decided to hold them thru the earnings announcement.

btw, as a former reporter, i agree with your comments about the books. we all love to make things simple black and white but there are always..always...at least two sides to every story.

I hate to bring this up old news up again, but I have always wondered how (and if) Phil and companys efforts in "cooking the books" was any different than what Larry did in the early 90s. Seems to me the main difference was timing. Orcl got caught doing this prior to an upswing in the database market. They cleaned things up and moved on with most of the same mgmt, and now no one remembers or cares. But ifmx was discovered at a time when recovery was much more difficult, and now Phil is permanently labelled with the mess, and people assume hes unemployable for life! Theres no doubt in my mind Larry was completely aware of all the revenue recognition on blank tapes, etc. at Oracle at the time. Im not saying that I would personally ever want to work for Ken 'the bolter' but its a pretty hypocritical world out there.

That sounds like Ken (physically). It also sounds like him mentally too. Always had a different view of the world. Thought it was good business to spend $2 to bring in $1 of revenue (according to bobf at the restatement meeting).

Anyway, ever hear the old wall street saying:
"Buy on the rumor, sell on the news"?
try
"Buy on the rumor, buy on the news"

Should work this quarter.

Cheers
