Tankan is a very much respected business report, produced quarterly by the Japanese government. It contains much more than just results of coupla hundred phone calls. They are based on data from all the management floors in Nihon inc. One of the points in there is also the answer to the questions like "How would you rate the economic situation of your company"

The sentiment indicator is 100 if everybody says "we're tops" and 0 if all the answers are negative.

in March 98 this indicator dropped 31 points

Now the government is pumping 80 Billion Yen (which is app 200 10^9 US ) into the banks april-June 98. Guess what? This money is flooding Europe and New York - the equivalent of the music in the 1st class floors on the Titanic -. And the Japanese industry, sitting in the second class down somewhere is starting to gag because of its financial problems and "no-orders" situation.

Janko

PS: And my question still stands: What's the amount of business Cisco is expecting from the pacific rim in 1998?
