With S3 being very familiar with FDJA technology since they had exclusivity, maybe they decided to let other companies compete and avoid paying those big licensing fees. They are probably so far ahead of anyone else (anyone else is at ground zero) that S3 can incorporate the technology in a product at least 6 months to a year before anyone else. Possibly something is brewing the FDJA and MSFT and S3 felt that by giving up exclusivity, FDJA technology would be more quickly accepted as the standard for desktop video. Of course, this is just my guess.

Interestingly enough, S3 is up on this news so the market has had no negative reaction. I think the market is just waiting for some news from S3 since we have not had anything substantial in months.

Q Guy, I agree with your take on the exclusivity agreement. SIII had the time to grab the advantage of the Farooooooojda technology and now is willing and able to give the exclusiveness(just trying to how many different ways I can use the root word) up. They've got what they wanted and now can save money. Wasn't that deal with Faroudja also SIII getting a stake in the company? Then, not only does SIII save money by not paying the license fees, they make money from others that do license.

Frank, I knew it was an April Fool's joke as soon as the 1 showed up in front of the 8. If there's a buyout, which I hope there isn't, the price would more likely be 8 or 28.....take your pick.
