When I hear ads for online brokers, whose customers say "with XYZ online brokerage, I was able to trade options online in my margin account and profit to the tune of $12,000 in 2 days", I begin to get very worried. I've been hearing more commercials lately advocating people to get into futures, and play heating oil contracts. That tells me that oil will probably drop again, as the recommended plays never seem to work out. I've never messed with futures, and don't think I ever will. Those who deal with the commodities are in a much better position to know what's going on than individual investors.
