From TI's Annual report: under "What is DSPS" section. There's a graph from Forward Concepts that shows the DSP Market to be just under $4B in 1998. If TI gets 45% that's ~$1.8B this year.

from 9/97, techweb.com

TI is ranked the DSP market share leader with about 45 percent of the worldwide revenues, according to Forward Concepts of Tempe, Ariz.

"DSP is the glue of the three converging industries -- computers, consumer, and communications," said analyst Will Strauss, president of Forward Concepts. "We believe the demand for DSPs will explode because the market is coming from several different end markets. The wireless communications, digital motor control, automotive, and even health care industries are all using DSP solutions. We expect the market to grow to more than $3.1 billion by the end of this year."

If DSP was $3B and TI was 45% then TI DSP rev ~ $1.35B.
I think DSP growth is roughly
97 $ 3B
98 $ 4B
99 $ 5B
00 $ 7B
01 $ 9B
Of course, emerging killer apps like ASDL can change this.

DSP is growing faster than rest, that's why I follow it. TXN is a good strong company and I think the management is still sharp.

I also think 'some' analysts who are close to this technology know what they are doing and getting rich and making investors rich.
