AMCC Develops New Chipset for Leitch Technology Corp.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--

Prototype Serializers/Deserializers Developed For Broadcast Video

(HDTV) Environment Equipment Demonstration at NAB-98 in Las Vegas

Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (Nasdaq:AMCC) Monday announced that
Leitch Technology Corp. has selected AMCC to develop an ASIC prototype
chipset for use in the Broadcast Video market.

The 1.5 Gbps silicon solution is aimed at meeting the higher
bandwidth and resolution requirements for the emerging digital
television and the broadcast video (HDTV) environment.

The AMCC products Lantern 1 and Lantern 2, the
serializer/deserializer ASIC chipset is based on AMCC's proven micro
Power bipolar process and Phased Locked Loop (PLL) designs. In
order to meet the new broadcast video HDTV standards, the designers of
the broadcast video studio equipment for HDTV, must focus on
developing systems that will provide the increased resolution and
performance required for the new digital television.

AMCC's expertise in high performance transceivers/receivers and
serial backplane ICs facilitated their ability to adapt in-house
technology to meet Leitch Technology's needs now.

"The AMCC serializer/deserializer chip set allowed us to quickly
and cost effectively design an entire suite of new HDTV products for
announcement at the NAB-98 Show in Las Vegas. The quality of the chips
and the attentive nature of AMCC's support organization has been
second to none," said Richard Kupnicki, vice president of research and
development for Leitch Technology.

"We are proud to have the opportunity to assist Leitch
Technology's advancement in the broadcast video industry, by
developing this new chipset for their next generation of broadcast
video/router HDTV equipment," said Jack Basi, AMCC's director of
marketing for datacom and computer products. "AMCC is dedicated to
being responsive to our customers' needs which helps them to be
leaders in their markets."

Leitch Technology designs and manufactures electronic equipment
to distribute, process, and switch high quality video and audio
signals required by television broadcast facilities, independent and
post-production studios, and telecomm companies worldwide.

AMCC designs, develops, manufactures and markets
high-performance, high-bandwidth silicon solutions for the world's
communication infrastructure.

The company utilizes a combination of high-frequency,
mixed-signal design expertise and multiple silicon process
technologies to offer IC products for the telecommunications market
that address the SONET/SDH and ATM transmission standards and for the
data communications markets that address the Gigabit Ethernet, ATM and
Fibre Channel transmission standards.

AMCC's core technologies also address ATE and high-speed
computing needs. AMCC's corporate headquarters and wafer fabrication
facilities are located in San Diego. Sales and consulting engineering
offices are located throughout the world.
