NEWS: DCI Expands European Network STRATFORD, Conn., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- DCI Telecommunications, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: DCTC - news) announced today the signing of an agreement with Telefonica de Espana which will allow DCI's wholly owned subsidiary, DCI Europe, to establish a telecommunications network that will greatly reduce the cost of long distance telephone services throughout Southern Spain. John Adams, CEO and Managing Director of DCI Europe stated that the network is designed to eliminate the current expensive long distance charges in the heavily populated Southern part of Spain. DCI's network will enable users to place telephone calls between the six major regions at substantially reduced local rates. Area residents and the more than 24 million tourists who visit the regions each year will be able to take advantage of the reduced rates for international calls. The international services are available to anyone in Spain via direct dial or prepaid telephone cards. Within several months, the company expects more than 1.5 million minutes per month to be flowing through the network. The final switching component is currently being connected and will be fully operational within the next week. This will not only reduce costs, increasing profitability, but permits full implementation of DCI's marketing plan for this region. Although deregulation in Spain will not be fully integrated until January 1999, DCI can begin building its customer base in Spain immediately, as a result of this agreement with Telefonica de Espana. DCI can establish a strong market position for near term, as well as for future expansion projects. DCI also stated that the recently announced joint venture with DataWave Systems, Inc., has received the necessary approval from the Canadian regulators and became effective April 1, 1998. The joint venture creates the largest prepaid phone card company in Canada, with a 40% market share or roughly $10 million in annual sales. Consolidation efforts have begun in an effort to eliminate duplicate processes, which will result in higher profit margins. As the European expansion plans continue, in addition to installing switching equipment, DCI Europe will also be establishing Internet links at the various European locations. These links, which will be either direct or through local Internet service providers, expand the service capability of each locale to allow Internet fax product(s) from DCI's CyberFax subsidiary to be offered. This will expand the market reach of CyberFax products as European business customers will now be able to experience the cost savings benefits from real-time faxing over the Internet. DCI Telecommunications is an international supplier of telephone services, including long distance service, prepaid telephone cards and Internet products. The company has an extensive distribution network throughout North America, Europe and the Far East and owns telephone switching facilities in Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain and Denmark. The company recently reported sales of $6.2 million and $1.3 million in profit (13 cents per share), for the first nine months of fiscal 1998, and has 12 operating facilities, serving customers in eight countries.
