Wait until the economy slows down and we will see who fares better, CIEN or LU. LU will be laying off people left and right and trying to cut costs.

Actually, that is another advantage of big dominant companies. They have more fat to cut than their leaner competitors, which is useful in a downturn. While painful for employees who discover they do not have lifetime tenure, these downsizings are usually enormously profitable for shareholders as costs are cut and profit margins expand. The strong tend to get stronger.

I expect that when Ciena gets cheap enough, it will be bought out by one of the larger telecom or networking companies. I am not confident that the DWDM boutique is a viable business model in the long run.
