Telecom faves under $30...few and far between. The sector has been too hot and I don't generally bottom fish there.

PERI (Periphonics) at 13 7/16. Turnaround story where products (mainly voice response units and voice recognition) and service have always been good but sales and marketing needed help. They're moving in the right direction. Although the stock is moving sluggishly, it's still going up and may kick in much harder with some press. Used to work with them directly and always liked the company...currently have a moderate position.

The rest are over $30! The sector doesn't have too many dogs. Well, there's always TALK. After all my ragging on them they'll probably double to $44.

One that's close is TGNT (Teligent) at 30 5/8. Building a wireless local business with newly assigned radio frequencies. CEO is Alex Mandl, formerly #2 at AT&T. He was going to get top slot at T but decided to leave for a great opportunity at a startup and ungodly sums of money. TGNT is a bit of a sleeper and is quietly building their business. Could be a very big win toward the end of 1998.

I love QWST (Qwest Comm) but they're at 39 3/8. Incredible business plan and management team. CEO is Joe Nacchio, with Alex Mandl, the only other entrepreneurial thinker to ever come out of AT&T. Best company in the biz IMO. Stock is volatile though. Great long term investment. Let me know if you want more info on them.

Watch LVLT (Level 3). They're at 72 but speculation is they'll do a 3-1 split and get the price to around $25. I've posted a ton of stuff on their board. More than a fair share of risk/reward ratio here so it's not for the faint of heart. They're just starting out, everyything's only on paper, but have $3 billion cash and a $12 billion market cap!! Fantastic and dedicated managment team with great track record that's chomping at the bit to get started. Same team that created first CLEC - MFS. Here's a post I did last night about a very possible business plan they could follow. Sold yesterday for a nice profit and got back in again today.

And here's a fluffy but interesting story about them in today's USA Today.

Max, nice play on RMDY. I had that one a month or so ago and made some bucks on the last big uptick. You got it this time. That one's flopping around like a salmon. Someone could make a living on that stock alone.

A friend of mine who works in call center management is real bullish on RMDY - says they suffered and now have their act together. I didn't like their last 10Q very much though, the management discussion was one big warning about competition. Maybe they were just trying to set expectations low. At any rate I only played it as a trade. Have you looked at RMDY in any detail lately? Would be interested in your thoughts.
