Every MSFT action is excused with " We do what our customers want and
what's best for them!"
hmmmm.makes you think!
Who are those people MSFT asks for their valued opinions?
It's like " I have heard from a very reliable source or from someone
who is at the front of the action or I have to protect my insider
sources.......

To much BS from MSFT for my taste!

>>> Progressive Networks' RealAudio and RealVideo streaming products got a shot in the arm today with he news that Microsoft plans to take a minority investment in the firm and license its key products,
RealAudio and RealVideo 4.0. <<<

I think this old announcement is what you mean. Yes, the bear's nose was in the tent.

It never ceases to amaze me that small companies so assiduously seek Microsoft as a partner. You risk them taking your key people, taking your technology, and for what? A minority interest, a position from where they can spy on you continuously. And then not even getting paid well for selling out, most often. I wonder how the VCs manage to get their money back on these deals - or if they do.

I know small firms here in SF Bay whose entire marketing plan for their new technology amounts to 'lets get a splash in the media, then sell out to MSFT.' As if MSFT can't tell when you are without alternatives, is frightened by companies with no real distribution or marketing plans, and won't then leave you looking like the Thanksgiving turkey two days after the big feast.

Cheers,
Chaz
