InternetConnect: High Quality Net Telephony Offered in Southern California PR Newswire - April 02, 1998 12:07 %MLM %CPR %PDT V%PRN P%PRN LOS ANGELES, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- InternetConnect, LLC, a regional Internet provider, announced today that they have signed a Master Distributor Agreement to resell NTC Global IP Telephony Services over a private backbone. "The voice over the net market will be the next big explosion in the Internet services marketplace," declared Cliff Young, president of InternetConnect. "InternetConnect is now positioned to offer these services to our customers in the Southern California region. This means that our customers can reduce their long distance bills by 50 - 70% for calls anywhere in the world, without any significant set up costs." Indeed, voice over IP, or Internet Telephony as it is more commonly known, is expected to log over twenty-four billion minutes in the year 2000 according to International Data Corporation, up from just 170 million minutes of use last year. Driving this demand will be cost savings and the future integration of voice with other data services. Most of InternetConnect's customers use the service for its flexible turn- key business solutions. "We have many corporate customers who will be able to more than pay for their existing company wide Internet connectivity with the savings they will realize from our new voice over IP service. InternetConnect also offers the new service to other ISP's in the Southern California region." InternetConnect's voice over IP service should not be confused with traditional voice over IP services where the user makes a telephone call over the public Internet. "Our calls are over a private frame relay network maintained by Infonet, where voice receives priority over data packets. This provides our customers with the best quality voice Internet telephony on the market today," said Young. In addition to the voice over IP service, InternetConnect will concurrently roll-out Internet fax services. The Networks Fax service uses cutting edge IP technology to send faxes from a user's PC over the private backbone to any fax machine in the world.
