Ho-Ho-Ho 1998

Aaarg. Its good to be back. Back in a place where men can be men and the wind hits you full in the face. A place where the corn grows high as a man's chest. A place where girls look plum tucker in plaid and thars blue denim as far as the eye can see.

Talking of corn you've had plenty of that round here too eh?

Now back to reality. Pleased to say that though my timing may have been a bit off I did avoid the big drop from 40->22 and sold some calls quite profitably. Back in at 22 and watched it droop to 17. I am now quite comfortable being long in AMD. Their time has come - and Intel is looking very shakey.

I was in Radio Shack the other day, buying a processor fan for my daughter's new K6/225 that I put together for her - K6 200Mhz run on a 75Mhz bus. Wonderful, fast and rock solid and this means all of our computers are now AMD powered. As you all know Radio Shack has done a deal with CPQ to exclusively stock CPQ computers. This store was being remodeled for the new CPQ line, actually the store had moved upstairs to a temporary location during the work.

The manager knew all about AMD and the K6, said it would be a huge product for them and then explained the Xmas special (hence the title of this missive). K6-3D being launched in May. Xmas stock arrives in August. Radio Shack expects the 3D computers to be their #1 hottest product this coming Xmas and they will be putting their merchandising/ advertising behind it.

Mobile Intel Chips

I think that was a typo or a misunderstanding. I saw another article (trying to remember where, it was either on Yahoo or the Intel thread) which said that the new Intel mobile chips would be used in laptops some of which are priced as low as $2,995. So that dollar figure was for the whole shebang, not just for the chip.

I could not believe my eyes when I read "The chips are priced at $2,995 each, said Intel." CPU
for $3k. Intel is not planning to sell a lot of those, is not it?

Albert,

This contradicts Lumberjack Paul's "way north of 140 npw" yield. It appears Intel is getting only a few dice per wafer on this type of chip or Intel thinks the customers are idiots. I don't know others. I won't pay this kind of money for a chip that prints "For Idiots Only" or "Idiots Inside". Hey, maybe that's what on it insider the mask set.
