It's a good thing they don't need to include A/C! The Federal regs are a bear. ABC is going 720p. The standards are being set. Now we can talk broadcast products..................................

Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Co. will build ABC's high-definition TV center at the network's New York headquarters. The facility will be built and the equipment installed by September, two months before ABC's planned launch of digital TV signals.

ABC Television Network President Preston Padden said the network will adopt the so-called 720 progressive digital format. While that picture offers higher resolution than what consumers now see, it is less crisp than another standard that would use 1080 lines on a TV screen.

''To make the best possible pictures and to be ready for the multimedia opportunities of the converged world of computing and television, ABC has selected 720p as HDTV format,'' Padden said at a press conference in New York.
