mafic intrusive means you have a rock which comes from the mantle as a magma and it intrudes into the earths crust. Thus there is a whole suite of mafic rocks. Sometimes these rocks contain sulphides including copper, nickel etc. So if you were looking for a base metal mine looking at mafic intrusives is a good place to start.

Ed,

Mafic intrusives contain olivine and some olivine contains minute amounts of elemental Ni.

Mafic intrusive interacts with sulfur bearing country rock, elemental Ni bonds with sulphur to produce sulphide material.

Sulphide material is mechanically concentrated through gravity settling or magmatic segregation and then fluid dynamics.

Each stage is very important more so than just "having a mafic intrusive"
