I agree, INTC never had the best chip just the best advertising. The PENTIUM is what made INTC. With CPQ already saying they will use the technology they gained from DEC and IBM's new chips, I also see INTC having problems in the future. I don't think Celeron or Merced (not aware of spelling) names will be as catching as the Pentium. Plus, I really don't think theres a need yet for anything faster than 300 mhz (at least on a big scale).

I have a 166mhz with 64 ram and its fast enough to run my BMI LiveWire program and make trades online at the same time. MSFT's new windows isn't expected to stimulate more demand or require much more power to run it. Until bandwidth improves and theres a real need for more power, like video conferencing or downloading videos from blockbusters.
