Are you sure reliability is directly associated with yield? Could it be the design has a direct connection to reliablity, more so than yield? Since they come from different yield, I don't know which would be considered more reliable chip, Intel? or AMD?

<If reliability is proportional to yield then you'd better tell your company not to buy any high speed PII's. When Intel does the bin speed sort on the new PII's the yield on the PII/450 is going to be worse>

Gene, I see you are confused about the difference between yield and binsplit. I don't believe Intel, or anyone else does speed binning at sort, though they may do data collecting based on speed. This is not a yield issue nor is it a good indicator of reliabliliy. Tony is correct that there is a relationship between yield and reliability. The relationship is more casual than predictive, but no one in the industry would deny that it exists. The argument would be how direct the relationship is.
Low yielding lots TEND to have greater BI fallout. Does this mean that all die from low yielding lots have a reliability problem? Of course not, but the probability is greater. There is a relationship.
