Letter I received from E-Trade Canada:

"...VERSUS (E-Trade Canada) is in the process of ensuring that all of its technical and business systems will operate properly across the millenium boundary. We expect to complete all the technical work required by January 1st, 1999 at which time we will begin participating in industry-wide testing.

We understand your concerns about year 2000 readiness and would like to assure of our intention to be prepared. Unfortunately at this point we are unable to provide specific details of what steps we are taking. We would be happy to provide more details as they become available. Given the profile of this issue, we will inform our clients of our actions to resolve this problem as they become available.

Once again we would like to thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns and we look forward to continuing to serve your investment needs.

Yours truly,

Mark Phillips Manager, Client Services"

Note: This is the most blatant brush-off I've received to date. A couple of my banks have been much more forthcoming and talked about contingency plans, specific systems that they have already tested and that they were preparing back in the early 90's etc.

You can be assured that I'll be pulling my E-Trade account long before the bell tolls midnight. These idiots have screwed up every administrative function to date and I have no faith in their ability to handle Y2K (my opinion only).
